First Things First....

To close out the year Cairns FM 89.1 and FNQ Originals will be presenting the ‘2022 North QLD Ultimate Top 50.’The songs from the Best North QLD Musicians which have been hand picked by Baz and Deveski will be played over a 6 hour Live Show on Boxing Day from Midday to 6pm counting down from Number 50 to Number 1.

2022 has been a great year for Cairns FM 89.1. We know people see Community Radio differently compared to 20 years ago, but we have definitely made some noise and brought back some of the awareness for us here to bring support back to the community. With that, we feel that the community has also re-engaged with the station, with local musicians enjoying brand new engagement, and creating a wonderful and supportive community at the same time. The 2022 NQ Ultimate Top 50 going live on Boxing Day is our way of showing our appreciation for all the love and support from everyone this year. We can’t begin to express gracefully how talented and hardworking this region’s artists are. Bring on 2023.

So How Does It Work?

So the Top 50 were chosen out of a list of around 95 songs for the year from Cairns FM staff. There will be two stages of voting for the Top 50.

  1. 2022 NQ Ultimate Top 50 Winner: This accolade will be marked and judged by Industry Professionals from around QLD. We have setup a localised voting system that they can go through and select their votes from Number 1 to Number 50. All the numbers are then averaged and put into their ranks. Finalisation of the artists will be done by 20th December 2022, where all votes can be accounted for and tallied. In case, there is a draw between artists, a re-vote will happen between the judges till there is an outcome.
  2. 2022 Listener’s Choice Award – This award will be voted by the people. The voting system will be on the Cairns FM website, and people can submit their Top 3 artists for the year.

The songs will be voted on by a select number of industry professionals and the final order will not be known until the show airs on Boxing Day. The Artist of the Number 1 Song will receive (confirmed):

  1. Headlining Show (Venue To Be Confirmed)
  2. 10 Hours of Recording and Mixing with Kris Hutcho from Studio Hutch
  3. 8 weeks of Publicity with WePop Publicity QLD
  4. Vouchers and Other Prizes (To Be Confirmed)
  5. A ‘2022 NQ Ultimate Top 50 Artist Of The Year’ Plaque from Cairns FM 89.1

There will also be a “Listener’s Choice of 2022” vote that can be completed on the Cairns FM website. Voting starts on the 30th November 2022. Please share on your Social Media and encourage you friends, family and fans to get in on the action and vote for your song. More details to come.
